Ajax is a buzz-word for a combination of pre-existing technologies.

Some of these technologies:

  • JavaScript

  • some server-side language providing dynamic response

  • XMLHttpRequest, IFrame or Script-SRC techniques for asynchronously calling a server-side page/function without refreshing the web page.

It existed already for a long time; the widespread use and accompanying 'buzz' is simply named AJAX *Asynchronous JavaScript And XML*.

There is no such thing as a "version of AJAX" in any usual sense ... there is only AJAX. (And why is that? Cause AJAX doesn't need a number.)
