Does anyone have a sample AJAX snippet that demonstrates how I can call database functions using a JS file? I know the JS file will call a JSP page, but I don't understand how you link the two together (i.e. how data is sent back and forth between the JS and JSP)

Thanks in advance.

Seems that you are new in Web Technologies. Ajax works in JS on Client(Front End) while Database exists on server. Hence Ajax can call a JSP(Middle Tier) which actually talks with the Database(Back End) and then sends the reply back to the client which can be html,JS or Ajax.
