I have been working on use cases, Activity Diagrams and Entity Relationship etc for the past 3 years.

I am unable to decide on the following.

I have plans to appear for UML certifications from OMG, or IBM etc.

My question is:

Should I take certifications offered by IBM which is more of UML specific to their tools (Rose etc) or generic exam (OMG), which only talks about of UML and not to any tool specific?

I would appreciate if any one guide me or share their experince.

This answer depends on what is your objective to use the certification for. If it is to be be more marketable than a product specific certificaion would make sense, especially IBM Rational tools even though they are not UML compliant (in terms of being upto date).

I would personally go for OMG certificaion as this is tool agnostic and will cover the detail of UML such as meta-models and also be right upto date. nothing against Rose, I've used it for many years, but then I've used other tools as well. The thing is they are quick to learn if you know UML.
