Writing the state of an object to a persistent medium(like disk) is known as serialization.
Serailization is useful when there is not enough memory space in the server, if the server need to create a new object as there is no memory space to hold that object then the server serializes an already existed object(s) in the memory (by writing to disk). There by creating space for the new object in the server memory.
Yes you can serialize a vector(As it implements Serializable interface).
