I set smtp from to catch bounce error messages as follows:

Properties props = System.getProperties();

props.put("mail.smtp.from", "bouncer@foo.com");

This works fine only if foo.com is a valid domain and bouncer is an invalid user id. This seems to not work when the domain is invalid. Any ideas?

Please e-mail suggestion to riyer@touchnet.com.

I cannot understand properly your question
If you are talking about sending a mail to a mail server using that from address, the response is that probably the mail
server is configured in such a way that it doesn't allow the use of invalid domains (standard way), in order to avoid spamming issues.

Usually mail servers are also configured to accept a range of from address in order to avoid spamming.
