I have two servers, both with J2DK 1.4.1_01 installed.

If I run a simple one-line Java program which outputs the command line parameter (ie system.out.println(args[0])) I get two different results if the parameter includes the sterling pound symbol. One server displays it correctly but the other displays ??.

Given the servers are using the same JDK, where do I look for the difference in charset setup? Or what might be causing the difference? The server which works correctly is running Redhat 8 and the other is running Redhat 7.1.

See, if you Brits would just use the Euro you wouldn't have this problem :-)

(seriously I don't know, could it be the "locale" setting? RTFM "locale")
