Forte is the old name for Sun ONE (Open Net Environment) Studio, which is Sun's Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Many people still use the name Forte to refer to the IDE--old habits die hard. So, the answer to your question would be, "Basically, yes."
You might want to download the newest version (if the CD has an older version). The product you want is Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1. Most likely the Community Edition (which is free) will meet your needs. They also offer the Enterprise Edition for Java (which is $1995). If you feel that you really need the Enterprise Edition, but don't want to spend the money, just remember that the minimum requirement for Java Development (Enterprise, Standard, or Mobile) is a text editor... (Just my own opinion. :)
