Most certification books simply skim the details of bitwise shifts and their purpose. Is there any book or site that explains the concepts in detail?

John Zukowski Chapter 2 of The Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide from Sybex offers good coverage on the topic. Addison Wesley's A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification wasn't bad either.
