Disney+ Is Making A Wakanda Series With ‘Black Panther’ Director

Only time can tell if we will ever come to terms with the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman, but it is good to know that his legacy will live on as the Black Panther franchise continues to expand. A Wakanda series is coming to Disney+ with Black Panther director Ryan Googler set to broaden the Black Panther universe.

Googler’s Proximity Media has made a five-year exclusive TV deal with Disney, and the series is just among the projects that he will be working on for the company’s streaming service. Speaking about the upcoming project, Bob Iger, Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement.

Ryan Googler is a singular storyteller whose vision and range have made him one of the standout filmmakers of his generation. With Black, Panther Ryan brought a groundbreaking story and iconic characters to life in a really meaningful and memorable way creating a watershed cultural moment. We’re thrilled to strengthen our relationship and look forward to telling more great stories with Ryan and his team.

Google Is Currently Working On Black Panther 2 But He Said His Production Company Is Already In The Mix On Some Projects.

The director also said that they will be working closely with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and their partners at Marvel Studios on select MCU shows for Disney+. There are no further details about the Wakanda series yet and it seems like it is still in very early stages.

There are also no casting details and no timeline about when we can expect the show was given. Marvel previously said that it will not recast Chadwick Boseman’s role, so the series will possibly take another route such as bringing T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri to take up the Black Panther mantle.

Of course, the plot for the Wakanda series isn’t confirmed yet, but knowing what happens in the comics, we can’t help but entertain the idea. In the comics, Shuri became the Black Panther after her brother is severely injured in an attack orchestrated by Doctor Doom. Shuri steps up to lead Wakanda in her brother’s place.

Another aspect that the upcoming series could also dig into is the internal conflict within the tribes of Wakanda. In the first Black Panther film, we learned that the nation is made up of five tribes. While the four tribes live in harmony, the fifth tribe called Jabari Tribe lives away from the others bowing down to the White Gorilla instead of the Black Panther. Now that the T’Challa is gone, we can’t deny the threat that the Jabari Tribe might pose. We’re expecting to hear more about the project in the upcoming months.
