Pay to be able to read a tweet. The idea sounds strange but you will have to get used to it. In a meeting with investors, Twitter has confirmed that it will soon allow users to make some of their tweets only available to those followers who first go through the box.

Baptized as Super Follow, the service will offer all kinds of exclusive content to followers. Private tweets, yes, but also images, videos, newsletters or participate in live meetings. Also offers or discounts and even the possibility of displaying a medal or distinctive symbol for supporting the creator. It will be, in a way, something similar to what services such as Patreon or OnlyFans now offer. Most of the tweets will continue to be free, but it opens a way of monetization that many users had claimed and now had to look for in alternative services.

For Twitter, it will also be a more solid source of income than the advertising business, although the company has not yet announced what commission it will charge for providing the service. Patreon, for example, charges between 5% and 12% of all revenue generated by creators, depending on the plan they choose. On the screens that Twitter has shown as a preview, Super Follow seems associated with a price of $ 4.99 per month, although it could be just an example. In other communities, it is usual to let each creator decide the different levels of contribution and the type of content to which they give access.

COMMUNITIES

Super Follow is not the only novelty that Twitter has prepared. Soon it will also begin to offer Communities, groups focused on certain content that can be created by the users themselves. These communities, according to Twitter, may have their own specific rules and norms of behavior as long as they are not in conflict with the general norms of the platform. The company considers it as an extension of the current Topics, which allows adding relevant tweets to the user’s timeline on matters that have been marked as relevant. During the call, Jack Dorsey, founder, and CEO of Twitter explained that the company’s goal is to double its revenue and reach 315 million active users per day over the next three years. The company will also try to launch new functions and services more frequently.
