The socially inept genius is not known for being affectionate, he is very open about his love for his grandmother, even calling her his favorite of all living members of his family on The Big Bang Theory.

Given how important Meemaw is to Sheldon, it’s strange that he didn’t attend the milestone in his grandson’s life when he married Amy in The Big Bang Theory season 11 finale titled “The Asymmetry of the Bow Tie.”

The decision to exclude Meemaw from the exit was due to a couple of reasons. According to showrunner Steve Holland, The Big Bang Theory episode already had a lot of characters so it would be difficult to cater to all of them without sacrificing the story.

They also added that they didn’t want to confuse people with two versions of the character, as Young Sheldon follows The Big Bang Theory, where Annie Potts plays a significantly different version of the role than June Squibb.

The first explanation of The Big Bang Theory somehow makes sense; the episode was already packed with guest stars, including Mark Hamill, who officiated the ceremony.

That said, The Big Bang Theory should have at least made an effort to explain Meemaw’s absence rather than completely ignoring it. Holland revealed that while they filmed a short scene cutting it, once again due to lack of time.
