Valve recently published its annual summary showing the most relevant data from the Steam platform, and the report revealed interesting information compared to other platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox.
The published data shows that Steam was the platform with the most monthly active users in 2020, beating all the competition, including PlayStation and Xbox. According to the report, the PC platform achieved 120 million monthly active players, thus surpassing 102 million for PlayStation and 90 million for Xbox Live.
While Steam was already experiencing significant growth in 2020 before the pandemic, playtime increased as people started staying home, dramatically increasing the number of customers shopping and gaming. Hopefully, this brings some joy to counteract some of the craziness that was 2020, Valve’s platform commented.
This led to new highs for monthly active users (120.4 million), daily active users (62.6 million), maximum concurrent users (24.8 million), first-time buyers (2.6 million per month), hours of playback time (31.3 billion hours), and the number of games purchased (21.4% more than in 2019).
The reality is that these numbers are not surprising if we take into account that just 1 week ago Steam managed to exceed 25 million simultaneous users, thus breaking a new record.
