If you are one of those who run away from the sun in summer-like one who runs away from flies, and you drive around with your car until you find a parking lot under the shade, Sono Motors presents the electric car that you won’t mind leaving ‘toast’ under the King Star. The Sono Sion, which has been presented in Las Vegas (of course) in its final design, is a self-recharging solar car that feeds on the sun’s energy and can generate up to 35 kilometers of additional autonomy per day only with the energy from the sun’s rays.
Do you understand now why it has been presented in Las Vegas In reality, being the city in the world with the most hours of sunshine per year is not the only reason. The celebration of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the largest consumer electronics fair in the world, was also a good reason to debut the model in the city that never sleeps or the city of lights, which is not only famous for its casinos
Sono Sion: 255 km of electric rangeThe total autonomy of the Sion, which can also be charged like any plug-in electric, is up to 255 kilometers in WLTP cycle with a single charge, depending on the weather and driving style according to the manufacturer, since the Sion is the first series-production car to have mood changes depending on the weather or type of climate. The more sun, the better your mood, and the more energy you regain. Thanks to more than 248 photovoltaic cells built into the bodywork the Sion can charge its battery during the day using energy from the sun. In Germany for example, up to 35 kilometers of additional range can be generated on a sunny day. Imagine if you live in Malaga, Almeria, or the Canary Islands. Sono Motors says the Sion is totally self – sufficient over short distances.
In addition, the German company ensures that the 35 kWh battery can be recharged up to 80% in just 30 minutes in a fast-charging station with the CCS type connector (up to 50 kW ). With the Type 2 cable (up to 11 kW ) you will need 3.2 hours for the same level of charge, while with a classic domestic plug of the SchuKo type (up to 3.7 kW ) you will need 13 hours. Thanks to a bi-directional on-board charger, the Sion can share its power with other electric vehicles.
To reduce production costs,
The Sono Sion is only available in a single version with a single battery option, and in a single color (black). That same sobriety has been applied to the exterior design, with very square shapes, and also to the interior, which has only the essentials. Even the steering wheel and center console have a minimalist design
In return it offers ample interior space with capacity for five passengers and a very generous trunk (650 liters) for its size: 4.3 meters long, 1.83 wide (without mirrors), and 1.67 high (the classic of a compact midsize minivan ). It does not lack, of course, a digital control panel with the basic information, cruise control USB and Bluetooth connection, Isofix anchors for child seats, two USB type C sockets four speakers, heated front seats, ambient lighting, table instrument panel with econometric on-board computer, external temperature indicator, seat occupant detection and driver passenger and side airbags.
The infotainment system with integrated connectivity and mobility services Car Sharing, Ride Pooling is controlled through a large 10-inch touch screen that presides over the dashboard. Sono Sion: 163 hp and 270 Nm of maximum torque Sion’s electric motor transmits power to the front axle and delivers 163 hp (120 kW) with a maximum torque of 270 Nm, allowing it to reach a top speed of 140 km / h (electronically limited).
The Sono Sion is priced
At € 25,500 in Germany and can now be ordered. Production will begin in 2022 and the first units are expected to be delivered that same year.
