The fifth season of Riverdale will premiere in January 2021 and will return to Riverdale High to complete some unfinished stories. But after this, the Netflix drama will move forward seven years in time, where fans can find out how friends’ lives turned out.

Earlier this year, Riverdale’s creators confirmed that the show would leap into the future for season five, where the teens are in their early 20s. Speaking of this big change, actress Reinhart said:

“I’m very excited about that. I think it will be very nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, our showrunner, said we would renew. So we will not be stuck in high school for seven seasons.”

However, one element of Riverdale’s fifth season that fans are desperate to find out is about childhood romances and if any of them stood the test of time.

Before the fourth season was cut short due to the pandemic, Archie and Betty shared a kiss behind the backs of their other halves. However, Betty ended their secret romance before it got more serious, as she said that she still wanted to be with her boyfriend Jughead.

So Archie and Betty returned to their partners but, as with any drama, the secrets don’t stay buried for long, so they are expected to be uncovered at the beginning of the fifth season.

Following the casting calls, neither Archie nor Betty will still be with Veronica and Jughead seven years from now. A call sheet for the next season of Riverdale revealed that the creators were looking for a “hipster and disastrous” character to play Jughead’s girlfriend Jessica.

On the other hand, Veronica will marry someone named Chad Gekko, who is described as “controlling and neurotic,” so it’s safe to say that her teenage love stories didn’t work out. Nevertheless, The creators have not announced that they are looking for actors to play Archie and Betty’s future partners. Could this mean that childhood friends will end up getting married after all?

The long-awaited drama will return in the New Year for the fifth season of The CW and Netflix. Likewise, Riverdale will be back on our screens starting Wednesday, January 20, 2021, on The CW, and then on the streaming service the next day.
