Mercedes Martinez returned to NXT in late 2020. Despite debuting on Monday Night RAW as part of RETRIBUTION, the fighter left the group in October, after expressing her desire to stop being part of history.

Martinez was interviewed this afternoon on Pwinsider to talk about her participation in the women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament but she also detailed her brief stint in Retribution. Here are the most prominent statements.

Being part of Retribution was not the right thing for his career

They gave me the opportunity and I accepted without knowing what was going to happen. You have to try to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, but I think this was not the right thing for me. When you reach the top of your career as I did As I celebrate my 20th anniversary in business, you want to make the most of your remaining years and make them part of your legacy.

Being part of that group since it was no secret that it was me. I am not hiding, but I do not mention it either because it is a small part of a much larger image. It’s one of those things you think about Mercedes is here now, but maybe this doesn’t fit her style, her career. There is no grudge. I just think we had different plans. I wanted to go in one direction and they had another opinion. I wish you success. I wish all the members of the group the best.
