During the NXT broadcast via the USA Network, it was announced that Io Shirai will defend the Black and Gold Brand Women’s Championship against Toni Storm on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.
Tonight, the current champion defeated Zoey Stark and while showing respect for her rival, Toni Storm interrupted the fighters to remind them that she has never been defeated in a heads up. He also highlighted that Shirai is afraid of her and does not want to accept her fate. Io accepted a title fight when Toni wanted it and minutes later, NXT made the announcement official.

At the recent NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day aired on WWE Network, Io Shirai had a successful defense against Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez in a triple threat. In the final moments of the match, Toni managed to apply a Headbutt from the third rope on Mercedes, but Io surprised both competitors with a Moonsault from the outskirts to iron Martinez and obtain victory.
