During the Monday Night RAW broadcasts through the USA Network, former competitor Gillberg returned to WWE programming for the first time in nearly four years of absence.
This week on RAW, The Miz and John Morrison presented a special edition of The Dirt Sheet promoting Goldberg’s special appearance for an exclusive interview. What no one expected is that it was Gillberg who came on the scene when the co-hosts introduced Drew McIntyre’s next rival at Royal Rumble 2021.
Gillberg cut several promos against a parodic version of the reigning WWE champion, and the segment ended with The Awesome showing off his Money in the Bank briefcase. This event marks Gillberg’s first appearance in nearly four years of absence. The last time we saw the former WWF lightweight champion was on February 17, 2017, on RAW. Gillberg was part of the Festival of Friendship that Chris Jericho dedicated to Kevin Owens ahead of the latter’s fight against the former WCW champion at Fastlane that year.
Gillberg had suffered a heart attack in late 2020
On November 26, James Ellsworth informed the wrestling community that Duane Gill (Gillberg’s real name) had suffered a heart attack for which he was quickly treated. Gillberg’s partner in the indies reported that his friend was in good shape after his medical intervention, and quickly called a campaign to help pay for his health expenses. The former wrestler was found resting at his home until several days ago.
