What's with this new IOError class, when is it thrown?

John Zukowski

The Console class has methods to read console input with readLine() and readPassword(). These methods throw IOError instead of IOException. My best guess at why the difference is becasue IOError is unchecked. Thus if you are teaching Java to a first year computer science student, you don't have to teach exception handling just yet, but still have a way to catch problems, if you want.
