A client (C) calls a method on a server (S1) that returns a remote reference to an object running on a second server (S2). If the client makes a call to this object, does this still generate network traffic involving S1, or is the connection between C and S2 completely direct?

Doug Bell

A remote reference is tied only to the remote server containing the referenced remote object. Therefore, the connection between C and S2 is completely direct and S1 is no longer involved in the connection.
