Carnival Row‘ is an American neo-noir urban fantasy web television series. It is created by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham. It premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 13, 2019 and has a total of eight episodes.

The series stars Orlando Bloom (Rycroft Philostrate), Cara Delevingne (Vignette Stonemoss), Simon McBurney (Runyon Millworthy), David Gyasi (Agreus Astrayton), Andrew Grover (Ezra Spurnrose), Tamzin Merchant (Imogen Spurnrose) and various other co-stars.

Moreover, Caroline Ford (Sophie Longerbane), Ariyon Bakare (Darius Sykes), Jamie Harris (Sergeant Dombey), Tracy Wilkinson (Afissa), Anna Rust (Fleury) and a huge ensemble of the cast to recur.

Plot 

‘Carnival Row’ is set in Burge, a Victorian-era city inhabited by humans and mythical creatures. These creatures have fled their war-torn homeland as tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population.

Amidst the drama is the investigation into a string of unsolved murders, unresolved love, the madness of power and social adjustments eating away at whatever uneasy peace subsists. On the whole, the show is all about Xenophobia and the refugee crisis.

The presumed plot of season 2 could be a focus on fae’s fight for liberation. Fight against a formidable new alliance of Jonah Breakspear and Sophie Longerbane. Meanwhile, Agrees and Imogen finds themselves on a run after a violent altercation with Imogen’s brother.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds an approval rating of 55% based on 67 reviews. While on Metacritic, the show has a weighted average score of 58/100 based on 22 critics.

Release Date

Production of season 2 commenced in November 2019, but was halted on behalf of the pandemic. As of the first week of May, the preparation of resuming the production was underway. However, by June 2020, Amazon had yet to resume production.

Also, the team was just three weeks away from concluding the season. Filming of season two completed in August 2020, in the Czech Republic. It is safe to assume that Philo and Vignette would be back on screens in around summer 2021.
