Amazon is already testing in Los Angeles its first 100% electric van that will bear the seal of Rivian, the new manufacturer of 100% electric vehicles, in which the distribution giant has invested 700 million dollars. The prototype has been designed jointly by two teams from Amazon and Rivian in such a way that it adapts to the loading needs as well as the operability of the drivers to carry out the loading and unloading during the delivery. The vehicle is connected and equipped with Alexa, Amazon‘s voice assistant, and is capable of traveling up to 150 miles (250 kilometers), more than enough for the standard trips of an Amazon driver with the vehicle full of packages that do not reach 100 miles per charge, according to the company’s own data. Hence, recharging is not a problem since it would be done at the base while the van is being refilled with packages. Amazon and Rivian boast that they have put conduit r at the center of the design.

In fact, sitting on the seat and wearing augmented reality glasses, several Amazon workers served the developers to design not only the driver’s seat but also the cargo area, the central aisle, the dimensions of the compartments, and the different openings depending on the volume of the packages. The two American companies have an agreement whereby Rivian will supply 100,000 zero-emission vehicles by 2030 to Amazon. The idea is that, once the pilot has started in Los Angeles, expansion to 15 other cities will begin this year. The strategy happens because 10,000 100% electric vans before the end of 2022

Honda eOne of the aspects that have attracted the most attention in the automotive sector about the exterior design of the vehicle is the close resemblance of the lower front of the Rivian van to the small electric vehicle Honda e. Basically for the optical groups, circular in both cases and that are similar. In principle, Amazon’s vans are intended to transport goods from the distribution giant in the US. For Europe Amazon has purchased 1,800 Sprinter and Vito vans from Mercedes-Benz. Of the latter, the order is for 600 units and they will be made at the plant that the star brand has in Vitoria. On the other hand, Amazon, in its commitment to decarbonize by 2040, will buy 1,000 trucks powered by liquefied natural gas in the US. This commitment, for the moment, only affects Amazon’s fleet of vehicles, since, in Spain, the company accepts drivers with their vehicles that are not qualified as ECO or Zero Emissions.
