I am working on a final year project in my school. The project involves adding more value to a webcam by using it as a motion detector. The idea is this. If the bytes of information that a webcam sends to a computer through the USB can be compared(in the java program) with what it was at a prior time(say 0.5seconds) then a Webcam can be used for motion detection. I have been using the java usb driver from the www.icaste.com website. I have been able to read bytes of data into a byte array from the isochronous pipe of the webcam. Problem is that even though there is no motion over the viewing area of the webcam the values of the byte array at certain indices changes. Because of this my algorithm for motion detec   More>>

I have been using the java usb driver from the www.icaste.com website. I have been able to read bytes of data into a byte array from the isochronous pipe of the webcam. Problem is that even though there is no motion over the viewing area of the webcam the values of the byte array at certain indices changes.

Because of this my algorithm for motion detection is lacking. Can anyone offer an algorithm for the webcam motion detection by working with the bytes that the webcam sends to the computer? or can anyone tell me how to convert the byte array to an image in the jpeg or png format? Thanks
