You should set your default values in the ActionForm itself in advance of displaying it and store it in whichever context you are using. Example:

[in SomeAction]
MyForm myForm = new MyForm(); myForm.setName( "myFormName" ); request.getSession().setAttribute( "myForm", myForm );

[in JSP]

Struts will then populate the html form with the value of the property. --HTH Ed
