1. JDBC programmatic approach: You can access Excel data using JDBC by using JDBC-ODBC bridge and "Microsoft Excel Driver". Setup a DSN for this driver and point it to a xls file. Your SQLs would use sheet names in the xls file instead of table names like this: "select from [$]". For e.g if there is a sheet called "Employees" then your SQL could be "select id, name from [Employees$]". Also, the first row is usually assumed to contain column names.

2. Batch approach - Export data of your xls file to MS Access. From MS Access you can further export to any other ODBC datasource using the export feature OR by creating link tables and copy data.
