As soon as the user submits username and password and presses login

an exception page appears which starts as follows:

org.apache.jasper.JasperException
at org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspRuntimeLibrary.internalIntrospecthelper(JspRuntimeLibrary.java:273)
at org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspRuntimeLibrary.introspecthelper(JspRuntimeLibrary.java:219)
at org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspRuntimeLibrary.introspect(JspRuntimeLibrary.java:197)
at org.apache.jsp.login$jsp._jspService(login$jsp.java:86)

I give you the setConnection and Authentication methods in case that helps

public boolean setConnection() {
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
} catch (Exception ex1) {
System.out.println("SetConnection: " + ex1.getMessage());
return false; }
try {
db=java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:hintdb","username","password");
st=db.createStatement();
return true;
} catch(SQLException ex) {
System.out.println("SetConnection: " + ex.getMessage());
return false; }
}

public String authenticate() {
String uid = "-1";
String SqlQuery = "SELECT uid" +
"FROM USERS" +
" WHERE username='"+ username +"' AND password='"+ password +"'";
try
{
System.out.println("Here1");

setConnection();
st=db.createStatement();
rs=st.executeQuery(SqlQuery);
if (rs.next()) {
uid = rs.getString("uid"); }
stopConnection();
return(uid);
}
catch(SQLException e)
{
System.out.println(e);
return "-1";
}
}

Verify that the jaxp jar file used by tomcat 4 is the same eventually used by you.
