I solved the problem myself..First I tried to load the mail and activation jar files in to the workspace and change the classpath..this did not work.
Websphere had its own j2EE.jar file, this contains all the mail class files . I deleted java mail related files from the j2EE.jar file and mergerd the mail.jar and jeEE.jar .
Since j2EE.jar is already in the class path..my application started working :)
