I see that Swift has the Kernel extensions for nio on the server side when using j2sdk1.4.0_x, but what about the client Socket connections? In the new api, they have wrapped nio with the old io package. Do these wrappers provide intelligent timeouts or will they block indefinitely on the client? Does the smqclient code intelligently determine if you have acess to nio?

java.nio is completely different from the java.io package. The use of java.nio doesn't make sense on the client side.
