Can i start a thread indirectly in a Session Bean?

For example, consider a Session Bean calling a method of a sigleton class with in the same container(this sigleton class is just an ordinary class) which starts a thread.

Is this allowed according to the EJB spec?

If not, what is the work around for starting and controlling a thread?

No this is not allowed, according to the EJB specifications. The only valid workaround would be to remove the threading call from the EJB context.
