I made an IRC client, and it is running from Applet. I have my own server(linux). I setup IRC on 6667, and Tomcat on 8080. According to my knowledge, communication through firewall occures only through port 80. If i setup the Tomcat on 80, IRC willnot work. What is the solution for running IRC through Firewall?.

you are probably right, that YOUR firewall only allows connections to port 80, but that isnt a limit (or "rule") for all firewall-setups.

solution: change your firewall-setting(s)

solution2: tunnel your 80->8080 (e.g.) 25->6667 on your server, so that connecting to port 80 on the server really connects to port 8080 and a connect to port 25 would really connect to port 6667.

solution2 is not very suitable, but at least fun to try out.
