Well, you would have to write and read XML data over the socket using the SOAP protocol. If your target Web Service is something simple, then you can parse the XML data that's returned. However, I wouldn't recommend doing it this way. The SOAP API is free and it handles all of the nasty internals of the SOAP protocal such as data-type mapping.
