How to determine that telnet server processed all input from user and waits for input from user?

I send command to Telnet server from my Telnet client (written on Java). Then I read output from telnet server and analyze it (look for special commands or strings).



How to determine that input from user is processed and all data sent to client and server ready to get new command?

Can you just wait to get the prompt string, from the shell running on the server?


I know that in an interactive login session with a tty, there is some buffering allowing "typeahead" before the next prompt comes back, but I think the safest thing is to wait for the shell prompt.
