Hi
In the main of your remote object, you could first start the rmi registry (LocateRegistry.createRegistry(portNo)) and then bind the remote object to the registry.Once you require the rmi registry to shut down you could first get reference of the remote object and then call a method which would have System.exit in the implementaion .This way the registry would be shut down.I'm not sure this is what you wanted.

Hi Suresh
Your RMI registry is a separate process running on your system. As such you may not be able to shut it down from any of the methods in java.rmi API.

One solution i remember reading a long time ago was to call Runtime and kill the process. However i'm unable to provide any details about this.

-Hope this was helpful
