I am trying to execute a buildfile from within another buildfile using the task. The two buildfiles are located in different directories and both have their base directories set to "." The problem is that the top-level buildfile's base directory remains in effect when the other buildfile is executed and thus, the path's defined in the 2nd buildfile are now invalid. I've tried setting the "dir" element of the task to the proper directory, but this isn't working. I've also tried setting "inheritAll" to false thinking that might be the problem, but no luck. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

What version of Ant are you using? If not already, try Ant 1.5. I believe there have been some fixes in this area and that a projects basedir should be respected unless specifically overridden. What is the syntax of your Ant task? Check the docs on that task to see the many rules that are considered when using it.
