Tomcat documentation states that mod_webapp web connector automatically configures itself to have Apache handle static content that is not processed by filters or security constraints defined within the web application's deploymet descriptor.

Is there a way to change this automatic behavior so that Apache will also handle filter-processed static content?

Hi,

No, I do not think this is possible.

I think that the connector checks that if a file is not processed by anything on the Servlet Container side, then it is sent back to Apache, but once a request starts to be processed by the Container, it follows the full lifecycle.

Maybe you cold contact the mod_webapp developers to understand if there is a way to put hooks in their code and send back the response to Apache for further processing... more or less like the PerlHandler of Apache's mod_perl.
