I think this question is answered in almost every single programming book there is.
If you know how a linked list is structured, it's quite easy to write a general linked list using
java.lang.Objects as the nodes' data.
This way you don't need to know which type of objects are stored into the linked list - only the user code needs to know that (and make explicit casts).
