I want to run two programs on the same machine and then communicate between them, sending data from one program to another and giving back the processed information back to the sender of the original information.

You have a lot of choices. some of which are

1. Sockets

2. Files

3. Pipes

4. RMI

5. Seperate threads in a single process

...etc.

The best choice will depend on what your processes are actually going to be doing.
