Is it possible to open a file in java with exclusive access. I have a file browsing app that needs to process files that have been/are being ftp'ed to a directory. I do not want to process a file that is currently being ftp'ed. I cant control the name of the file or anything in the ftp. The only easy way I can think of is an exclusive open but I dont see how to do it in the documentation.

File locking is usually OS dependant. Without resorting to JNI hooks I don't think you can do it although I could be wrong.
