How to start a java application

I would like to have my java application's icon on my desk top, and start in on double click.


I created a shortcut, on double click a dos prompt opens and my application starts.


The dos prompt stays open all the time.


Is there a way to hide that annoying dos prompt?


Is there another way to start a java application?

A very convinient way is to create a jar file with a manifest that would contain the field 
Main-Class=my.main.Class


then you double-click the jar and it runs


If you need to indicate some class path you may also do so in the manifest.

use javaw.exe instead of java.exe
