Can I use JMS to queue email messages before they go to SMTP server for delivery?

My requirement is like this:
I need to send bulk mail messages. But I don't want to use Thread. Because if I use thread, if SMTP server goes down the mail won't get delivered. I would like to queue the messages whenever the SMTP server is down. Once the server is up I want to send the queued messages.
To do this can I use JMS? If this is possible, can anyone post some code to help me get thru....?
Thanks in advance,

SwiftMQ includes a SMTP Mailer Swiftlet which does just this:

JMS seems a good solution, but remember that you will still need a thread to empty the JMS queue (or you could use a Message-Driven Bean). As for code, don't be lazy and hit the web, there's plenty of tutorials (I think there is a good one on java.sun.com)
