My java app runs on a Unix server using Exceed so that the Unix session can be run from a PC, with the PC screen as the client display. The java app uses Swing for the GUI, displaying windows etc for user interaction.

If the PC crashes or is rebooted, this leaves my java app still running on the unix server, but without any display to write to, and no way for the user to interact with it.

Is there any way my java app can detect the loss of the client display so that it can shut down cleanly, rather than continuing autonomous processing?

I'm pretty sure that if Exceed closes, you'll get the same effect as closing the window without exiting the application. I'm sure that your Swing app is getting some kind of notification that the window is going away.

You should handle that situation and exit the program.
