Searching based on multiple fields

I have successfully added certain custom fields for indexing. The fields include a creation_date and an author field. This I know since I get the correct hits when I search for a specific term within a specific field.

But How to build a Query object
for lucene which will be similar to (syntax wise) a SQL query like this one:

SELECT DOC_Id WHERE AUTHOR LIKE '%ROBERT%' AND DOC_CREATION_DATE BETWEEN
'01/02/2002' AND '03/02/2002'

Could someone help me with that?

Look into Range queries and Date Filter.
I am not sure if either one can be used for your purposes, because I never had to use them, but you should look into them if you haven't already.
