what is the value of lock when an object holds the lock?

As monitor(lock in java is nothing but the semaphore of an Os , so i think the value depends on how the Os implement the semaphore concept.for example it can have binary value or integer or negative value?am i corrcet or somebody has any other answers pls enlighten

I may be *way* off the mark here, but aren't you requesting an OS-specific answer for an OS-independent language? Without providing details of the OS you're working on? If that is the case the answer will no doubt vary from OS to OS.
