If you want to precompile a jsp (if you want to check java errors, for example) you can use the solution suggested in this FAQ: Is there a common way (not servlet-container dependant) to precompile a jsp file without waiting for the first hit?

Otherwise, you do not need to compile a JSP if you just want to run it. Once is developed you can just place somewhere under the root of your web application and then call it through your browser.

The servlet container will automatically compile it for you.
