The IDE is fast when I start it. After some time, it is very slow to open any menus, change to another java source pane etc. After some time, I have to quit the IDE and restart it to have a better response.

Can someone suggest tuning parameters for better performance ?
My JVM args are -ms192m -mx256m

your settings look wrong it should be -Xms192m & -Xmx256m.
