Please let me know how to find out the system resources on a machine using a java application.

I am more interested in finding out the available/used hard-disk/floppy space and the RAM available/used size.

Another option is to use WBEM and the WBEM framework for sun. You could write your own hooks to populate CIM and extract using the framework.

In Linux there is a directory named /proc

which contains the runtime information
about the system.This info is distributed
over a number of files.There are different
files for CPU,RAM,number of processes etc.
All u have to do is read these files and display the information.
