setEntityContext() is the first method that is called after a bean has been instantiated, just before the bean is inserted into the instance pool.

The purpose of the method is to pass, to that bean, the reference of the javax.ejb.EntityContext, that is the instance's interface to the container. This reference will be inserted in an instance field of the bean, so it will stay there for the entire life of the instance.
