Do all the following as root:
(1) Open /etc/inittab. The initdefault should be 5. If not switch it to 5 and restart your system.
(2) If it is 5, go to the bottom of the file. Should be a line that reads:
#x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon
If not, add it and restart.
(3) If neither of the above worked, try to manually start X by typing "startx".

also try putting the latest version of XFree86 on it, that solved my problem.

If your monitor in not listed, select
"Custom" from the list and fill in
the details manually.u need to have
the monitor's manual close by.
