The Official line seems to be jdk1.4 will be supported by a future version.

If you mean changing the project properties to add jdk 1.4 as the compiler/runtime (as opposed to running idea under 1.4).. it all works pretty well, the major problem I've seen is the visual debugger becomes very slow indeed.
