I am attempting to create an asynchronous messaging client... basically I want the client to subscribe to a publishing topic... can this be done with JAXM (XML-RPC) and SOAP... if so can you point me to some resources that explain this... thank you

this is for JMS. JAXM and SOAP are not a good fit for this application. use JMS.
