Hi,

Tomcat is a servlet container and it is normally used to handle servlets and jsps. It does contain a very simple and basic web server, but the capabilities of it are not as powerful as real web server like Apache.

The question you are asking can be answered only based on your application. If your application is heavily based on servlets and jsps, with no use of other technologies, like php or cgi, maybe you can just use Tomcat. Otherwise maybe interesting and definitely more appropriate have a web server like Apache as a frontend, and use Tomcat just as a servlet container.

You can obviously use IIS, if you like software that contains more bugs and more security holes than lines of code... lol
